My Volleyball Story
Hi, I’m Netta Collins—former competitive volleyball player, current coach, and the voice behind VolleyXpert.com. If you’re reading this, we probably share something in common: an unshakable love for volleyball.
This isn’t just another sports blog. It’s the culmination of decades of my sweat, heart, and hard-earned lessons—both on and off the court.
I did not just play volleyball, I lived it. From my first shaky overhand serve to teaching championship-winning techniques, every part of my life has led to the manner in which I teach and write about this incredible sport.
This is not a biography—it’s a story about how volleyball changed my life.

How I Fell in Love with Volleyball
I still remember my first volleyball practice—I was 12 years old and had no idea what I was doing. I wasn’t the tallest or strongest, but I loved how fast and exciting the game was. My coach noticed my energy and taught me how to focus on defense and passing.
At first, I wasn’t great. But I kept practicing—digging balls in my backyard, watching games on TV, and begging my parents to let me join a club team. That’s when I found Mintonette, one of the best junior clubs in my area.
My Competitive Years at Mintonette
It was a big challenge to be a member of Mintonette. The players were faster, stronger, and more skilled than anyone I ever played against. I had to work twice as hard just to remain competitive.
But I didn’t give up.
I became a defense specialist, the player who focused on keeping the ball alive. My role wasn’t to score points—it was to ensure my team had a chance to battle for every play. We went to tournaments, played against strong opponents, and even won some unexpected matches.
Those years taught me:
✔ Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
✔ Mistakes are going to happen—you just have to come back stronger.
✔ Teamwork is crucial—volleyball is not a one-person sport.
When My Playing Career Ended
Like many athletes, I dreamed of playing in college. But reality hit—I wasn’t going pro. At first, I was heartbroken. Volleyball had been my whole life—what was I supposed to do now?
Then I realized: just because I stopped playing didn’t mean I had to leave the sport behind.
I started coaching younger players, and it changed everything. Seeing them improve, gain confidence, and fall in love with volleyball reminded me why I loved this game so much.
